Summer at the Sea

A Little Break

I've been pretty bad on the blogging front for the last few weeks, caught up in summer reading and looking after my adorable niece and nephew, however I have finally completed the edits from my first male portraiture shoot with Adam. 

This was definitely something different for me, when I did this shoot, I'd easily done a dozen female portraiture and fashion shoots but somehow I'd never actually worked with a male model. Generally I found very few differences, but the couple I found really did change the dynamics. I quickly established that male poses are entirely different and that consequently composition was often changed to suit the male physique. Nonetheless, I definitely found it good to try something new, and I look forward to sharing you the second set of photographs from this shoot. 

Floral Frenzy

I'm really taking advantage of my free time this week and trying to tick everything off my to-do list, these photographs are from one of many fashion and portraiture shoots I did at the end of last term. 

This shoot definitely had a floral theme, a floral print dress, a flowery headpiece and a variety of flowers in the backgrounds. One of the things I love about letting a model choose their own look and outfit is the fact that I'm always amazed by how different everyone's own style is. Lucy wears a summery floral formal dress here but with a winter knitted cardigan ... which is of course somewhat necessary when you live in England. Granted, we've had some great weather and heatwaves lately, but it's not often warm enough to simply wear a summer dress.

Summer Whites Part II

I shared the monochrome photographs from the first part of my shoot with Emily Wall earlier this week and so before I get caught up in my next project, here are some more shots from that day, but in colour. Enjoy!

Beside the Seaside

It was way back in May that I actually shot these, but this break between shooting and editing gave me a lot of time to consider what I was going for. A t-shirt and high waisted skirt is one of my standard casual outfits, though usually in black not white, and with a nice pair of boots not heels, so this look was definitely one I liked. 

I'm really considering trying out some self-portraiture soon, and looking forward to sharing the results if I do. Outside of my photography I'm currently in the process of creating a capsule wardrobe and the completion of that will be a great opportunity to give self-portraiture a shot. More on this soon but for now... here are some photographs of Emily Wall in a Devon seaside town. 

Summer Whites

Hey Guys! I've taken a little hiatus with my photography blogging for the last few weeks to work on some ideas but I couldn't resist sharing some of these beach shots featuring Emily Wall. Although I don't wear much white, I really love the way it comes out in monochrome photos and there's something so clean and simple about white. 

Always Moving Forward

As promised, the second set of photographs from my trip to Powderham Castle with Clara George!

  I really enjoyed my time off between finishing my first year of uni and doing some work experience and having so much time to spend on working with these photographs, however I'm now working and so unfortunately the regularity of my posts is definitely going to decrease a little. Two a week has been really fun but will not be so easily done with everything I have planned this summer. Luckily, I still have a few more from my time in Exeter to share, including my first proper foray into male fashion/portraiture photography. 

Living in a Fairytale

A couple of weeks ago I took a trip to Powderham Castle in Devon with Clara George, and here are the first photographs from this visit.

I was pretty amazed by the beautiful and well maintained garden, but the true beauty was in the castle itself. I had expected to find it run down and out of place, rather than something one would expect to find in a fairytale. This shoot definitely turned out a little different than I expected but I love the way the photographs came out.  Whilst I definitely like the colours in these, I'm really looking forward to sharing a few monochrome shots from this set, which I will be doing on Friday.

Something Different

I've been posting quite a lot of fashion photography lately, rather than landscape or city which I hope to be posting some more of later in the summer, however these photographs are the result of my first foray into ballet photography so feel free to let me know what you think.

Places That Fall Apart

These photographs are the second set from my trip to Poltimore House with Zoe Wong. My love of monochrome photography definitely took over with this shoot, however I do like working with colour and so I really enjoyed trying to balance the contrast between the greys and reds of the building and the vivid greens in the plant life when processing these photographs.  I definitely want to get out and find more unusual places like this to photograph!

Breaking and Entering

I've been super busy working on my photography since finishing my exams, trying to get as many of my ideas processed. One of the things I've been longing to do since delving into fashion photography is do some darker photography and when I discovered Poltimore House, a nearby dilapidated 18th-century country house in Devon, I knew I'd found the perfect location. I love the effect shooting in listed buildings and other places that are simply abandoned by society now has on the photographs, however it turned out my model and I were in for a surprise when we got there. A group of volunteers are slowly in the process of restoration, and whilst the building is still in a state of ruin, it's surrounded by scaffolding. Naturally this didn't stop us however and we took great satisfaction in sneaking around the place, whilst avoiding the event taking place in the gardens. 

Grey Days

Earlier this week I posted some of the photographs I took at Exmouth on a rainy day with Jess Curson, here are the second set of photographs from this shoot. I chose to photograph in monochrome for a lot of this shoot, simply because I loved the nice tonal greys that resulted of the grim weather.

A British Summer

Here are some of the photographs of Jess Curson I took last week when shooting at Exmouth. What we'd hoped would be a gorgeous summer day was in fact a thoroughly wet day but the cloud cover made for really nice soft light and we still managed to get some nice shots.

           

We Never Go Out of Style

Fashion is always changing, making it practically impossible to keep up with it, be on trend and tailor it to suit your own personal style...which is why I love plaid. Not only is plaid almost always in, but it is so easy to tailor to any look, from preppy to alternative. A plaid skirt can be easily paired with summery crop tops or winter knits, making it super versatile. 

Distressed Denim

           

This shoot was inspired by one of the key pieces I picked up for my summer wardrobe, a distressed sleeveless denim jacket.  I love the effect created by mixing two opposite styles and I knew this jacket would be the perfect way to add a little edge to some of my more feminine dresses without the heavy feel of my leather jacket. My wonderful friend Lizzie agreed to modelling for me a long time ago and so when we finally both had a compatible date and the weather was nice, it was time to get out my new jacket. 

Lake District

 I took these photographs in the Lake District a few weeks ago on my Easter break, but I've been very busy working on revision and projects for Uni, so taken me a little while to sort through and select some to share on here. These photographs were taken using a circular polarising filter to bring out the blues, and I enhanced these whilst post-processing...

Bubbles

Some photographs of a trip to the local park with my niece and nephew to play with some bubbles today... I really love that for once I got some nice natural smiles, rather than silly faces. Though there were a fair few silly faces!
