Florence and Venice

I was amazed by the intricacy and beauty of the architecture in Florence and Venice, and Venice was definitely my favourite Italian city to photograph but it was very touristy. I loved the colours and the amazingly illogical layout, but unfortunately my camera was really dying by the last few cities and so I only got to photograph my first day in Venice and never got to photograph Milan. 

Paris to Munich to Rome

One of the craziest parts of my journey was that I travelled all the way from Paris to Rome on just two overnight trains. Unfortunately I was so skint I couldn't afford anything but standard seating so by the time I reached Rome...I was exhausted! These photographs are from the cities I visited after Paris: Munich, Rome, and Pisa. Of these cities, my favourite was Munich, and I'm actually hoping to spend my year abroad there. Italy was simply too hot for me, though lovely! 

Parisian Summer

These photographs are from the first part of my visit to Europe this summer, I spent about three days running around Paris with my camera trying to do literally everything. Despite the trip not being how I'd hoped, I was thrilled with the photographs I got, but I've only just got round to sorting through them (I took thousands). I will soon be posting photographs from the rest of my trip, but sadly my camera battery got exhausted over the ten days and I hadn't brought a charger, so there are a lot less from other locations. 

Celebrating Berlin Part Two

Okay, on Friday I posted a selection of my favourite photographs I took in Berlin to commemorate the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall, or Der Fall Der Mauer ;). Those photographs were all monochrome, and I feel it's time to add another splash of colour to my blog. Like the previous set, these photographs were inspired by Lomography, and this can really be seen in the crazy colours. Six of these photographs were also shown in monochrome, but they look amazingly different in colour, whereas the other six are completely different. You might also notice that the six I've repeated are digitally created double exposures with the differing photographs being of modern and old buildings.

Celebrating Berlin

It's been few days since the 25th anniversary of the Berlin Wall being torn down, but I feel now's a good time to share some of my favourite photographs that I took whilst on a trip to Berlin last year. I've decided to share the monochrome photographs first but I have plans to post the colour copies. These photographs were actually taken using my SLR as part of a project inspired by digitally created Lomography.

Initially a form of creative and experimental film photography, Lomography was started as an art movement through which students held exhibitions featuring photographs of Vienna taken by the LCA camera which was created by the Russian company LOMO (hence the name). Now it's a popular style of editing photographs and you can buy Lomography cameras, such as the Diana Mini which is the Lomography camera I have. So the thing that makes Lomographs special..basically crazy colours created by light leaks, vignettes and interesting perspectives and compositions.

My photographs were taken all around Berlin but I had a particular interest in focusing on the juxtaposition between the old, communist remnants and the modern rebuilt areas as well as documenting the exciting monumental places I visited such as the Brandenburg. I especially loved photographing the Berlin Wall and seeing the amazing artwork on it.
